More about Isaac

Isaac Pauley started on his musical journey with piano lessons in 2000 at the age of 7. His study of piano was focused primarily on chord theory and its application in church music. He branched out toward violin in 2003, with the encouragement of his violin and viola playing mother. In 2004, he started playing violin with Youth Music Monterey on the central coast of California, becoming assistant principal 2nd violin with the Youth Orchestra, and later principal viola with the Honor Orchestra. His musical abilities continued to grow and mature, and by 2005 he had qualified for the CMEA Central Coast Section Junior High Honor Orchestra, and started playing keyboard in the chapel band at the middle school he attended in Seaside, CA.

In 2007 Isaac switched to viola as his primary stringed instrument of study, and qualified for the CODA All-State Honor Symphony, an honor he qualified for all through high school. His abilities in the instrument continued to progress, passing the Associated Board for the Royal Schools of Music exam with distinction multiple times. He qualified for the CMEA All-State Honor Orchestra in 2009, 2010, and 2011, making him one of the top 20 high-school orchestral viola players in the state of California at that time.

Isaac got plugged in with the chapel band at the high school he attended from his freshman year in 2007. In 2009, with no clear worship leader, Isaac was pushed to lead worship in addition to playing keyboard. He continued to serve and lead worship at his high school, and was elected Worship Assistant to the Student Council as a junior. Isaac graduated Salutatorian from Trinity Christian High School in 2011.

Isaac was given an acoustic guitar as a graduation present, which started a self-taught journey on the instrument. He attended George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon starting in the fall of 2011, on an instrumental scholarship for viola, studying primarily under Rebekah Hansen. He also participated in the University Chamber Ensemble, Concert Choir, Worship Ensemble, and the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, Isaac was a winner of the George Fox University Concerto Competition, and was given the honor to play the 1st movement of the William Walton Viola Concerto with the Chehalem Symphony under the direction of Travis Hatton.

During his college years, Isaac got involved with the music ministry at Grace Baptist Church in Newberg. Worship and Arts Pastor Robert Gaither gave Isaac opportunities to play guitar, keyboard, and viola, as well as mix sound for midweek rehearsals. He later let Isaac Pauley lead rehearsals for the seasonal church choir, and gave him numerous opportunities to lead worship for Sunday gatherings. Robert Gaither also coordinated the worship ensemble, and gave Isaac a leading role in that department. The GFU worship ensemble led worship at weekly chapel, and at churches in Newberg, Salem, and Sherwood, Oregon.

Isaac graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. Later in 2015, he was hired as the Worship Director at Southwest Hills Baptist Church in Beaverton, Oregon. In his time at Southwest Hills, Isaac has expanded the volunteer base of the music ministry, and combined the seasonal church choir with live orchestral instrumentation for multiple Advent and Easter seasons. He has also spear-headed a logo and comprehensive website redesign, helped bring Church Community Builder to the church, and got the church started live-streaming services online. In addition to his duties as Director of Music and Media at Southwest Hills, Isaac has volunteered his time with Cor Deo Christian Academy, and the Westside Community & Youth Orchestra.

Isaac has been married to Jackie since 2015, and currently reside in Beaverton. Jackie currently works in the background check industry, and also works as a wedding coordinator. In his spare time, Isaac enjoys aviation photography, running, skiing, stand-up paddle boarding, and traveling with Jackie.
